Become an MRCKC Volunteer
MRCKC members at an exercise.In the event of a large-scale public health emergency in the Kansas City area, persons 18 years and older with a variety of skills and experience, both medical and non-medical, will be needed to assist and support the existing public health infrastructure.
MRCKC needs volunteers with a variety of skills, including:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- EMTs and paramedics
- Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
- Mental health professionals
- Phlebotomists
- Mortuary services professionals
- Security staff
- Clerical support/data entry staff
- Medical logistics experts
- Health care administrators
- Communications experts
- Public relations specialists
- Interpreters
- Health care educators
All applicants accepted into MRCKC will undergo regular emergency response training or be provided practical training immediately prior to deployment.
What the Medical Reserve Corps Expects of Members:
- Members must help MRCKC maintain accurate and up-to-date contact information, including mailing addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
- Members must be willing to respond to an emergency in the Kansas City area on short notice, both during and after normal work hours or on weekends.
- When deployed, unit members should have their own transportation to the staging site and may have to work under stressful conditions in austere environments.
- Members must also be willing to work as part of a specialized team and regularly attend membership meetings as well as training and exercises.
- Members must be willing to complete training in core competencies appropriate for their division.
- Unit members are provided with a distinctive uniform and must conduct themselves in a manner that instills the trust and confidence of the public and the emergency services community.

Division Requirements
All Division 1 applicants have the opportunity to meet with the Medical Reserve Corps staff to explore the options available in this membership category. Licensure verification is conducted as needed to ensure that selected applicants are qualified to provide care to the public.
Division 2 and Division 3 applicants undergo verification of license, hospital privileges, and current employment status as applicable.
How is my Information Used?
Information from your application will be added to a secure, central database of member contact information and qualifications. This database is maintained by the Mid-America Regional Council. The information will be shared only with participating local city and county public health departments to enable them to contact members for activation in the event of an emergency.
